Argan trees are found only in Morocco. They grow in the south-west region of Morocco between Essaouira and Agadir. Argan trees grow on half-dessert and hilly lands. It takes 12 years for an argan tree to bear first fruits.
Argan fruits are harvested once a year in June and July, when the fruits are best in quality. Ripen fruits drop to the ground and are collected by the locals for processing. Argan fruits are processed by various Morrocan Women Co-operatives situated along the road from Essaouira to Agadir.
